OUR RECENT NEWS IN & OUTSIDE THE COURTROOM
OUR
KNOWLEDGE ABOUT CURRENT LEGAL TOPICS
- Simplicity, Inc. Bassinets Draw Government Warning
Simplicity Inc., a well-known maker of children's bassinet products, was already in serious financial straits when 4-month-old Katelyn Marie Simon, of Noel, Mo., died in a Simplicity bassinet last Sept. 29. Two other infants died when drop sides came off, leading the company to announce in September 2007 that it was recalling 1 million cribs -- the largest crib recall in U.S. history. (August 30, 2008)
- Bus Crash in Sherman, TX Kills 14
A charter bus carrying Vietnamese worshippers on a pilgrimage slammed onto its side and off a highway north of Dallas early Friday, killing at least 14
people and injuring more than 40.
The bus that crashed in Sherman early Friday morning did not have the proper authority to travel out of state, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration said. (August 8, 2008)
- Agency Alters Trucker
Rules
Government says they can drive longer, which some say is unsafe.
- Auto Rollover Rules
Proposed
U.S. highway safety officials proposed new rules Friday to reduce deaths
and injuries from roof failures when vehicles flip over, extending the standards
to cover large sport utility vehicles and pickup trucks.
- Safety Officials May
Propose Stronger Roofs On Automobiles
Safety regulators may propose a rule that will require automakers to increase
the amount of weight a roof can withstand. Safety advocates do not believe
the increase from 1.5 times the vehicle's weight to 2.5 times is enough.
